Getting started

TVTally is your personal TV diary. Search for any show, keep a dated, star-rated log of the episodes you watch, and let the progress badges tell you how many episodes you have left in each season.

Signing in

TVTally logs you in with your username (not your email) and your password. If an administrator created your account for you, you'll have received an email with a link to set your own password — open it, choose a password, and sign in.

Finding your way around

The main sections are:

  • Search — the magnifying-glass (top right on your phone, in the nav bar on a computer, or press ⌘K / Ctrl-K) finds any show. Open one to see its seasons and episodes.
  • Dashboard — your home screen: watch stats, your current streak, an activity heatmap, and an Up next list of the next episode to watch in each show you've started. Episodes with no announced air date yet ("TBA") are skipped, so a show you're caught up on stays off the list until its next episode is actually dated.
  • Diary — every episode you've logged, newest first. See Your diary.
  • Watchlist — shows you've bookmarked to watch next. See Watchlist.
  • Shows — your own library: every show you've logged an episode of, marked a season complete on, or bookmarked.

Your Shows library

Shows collects everything you have a relationship with — watching, finished, or bookmarked for later — and nothing else. Shows you've never touched aren't listed; find those with the search.

By default it's ordered by when you last interacted with a show: the most recent episode you logged for it, or the day you added it to your watchlist. You can also search, filter, and sort by year or title. A bookmark icon on the poster marks the shows that are on your watchlist, and the corner badge counts the episodes you have left.

The status filter splits the library into four groups, and every show is in exactly one of them:

  • Ongoing — you've started it and haven't finished it.
  • Completed — every regular episode logged (or in a season you marked complete). Specials don't count.
  • Watchlist — bookmarked, not started yet.
  • Won't finish — you marked it as one you're not going to finish. Its poster carries a small no-entry mark in the grid.

A show you've started stays on your watchlist if you bookmarked it, but it's filed under Ongoing — the bookmark icon on the poster still tells you it's there.

Tracking your first episode

  1. Tap the search icon (or press ⌘K) and find a show you're watching.
  2. Open a season, then find the episode.
  3. Tap Log watch, confirm the date you saw it, and give it a star rating.

That episode now counts toward your stats, and the season's episodes-left badge ticks down. Full details in Your diary.
